Easter

A special lesson at Easter time, linked to the language of study is another fantastic opportunity to build children’s cultural capital as referred to in the Age Related Expectations. At Easter, take the chance to talk to your class about the traditions they follow and compare these with other countries.

Here is a list of ideas you might want to include as part of a special Easter lesson:

  • Share foods associated with Easter from Spanish/French or German speaking countries. If food allergies are a problem, use photographs.
  • Create menus of special foods for Easter in the target language.
  • Make special cakes, brioche or biscuits with the children as part of an Easter celebration.
  • Look at the Easter story in the target language. Pick out simple language and phrases.
  • Decorate eggs and discuss the colours in the target language, give simple instructions in French/Spanish or German.
  • Create an egg hunt with pictorial eggs with clues in the target language similar to a treasure hunt.
  • Share information about Easter in countries around the world and then create a quiz with prizes for the winning team.
  • Make Easter cards with instructions given in the target language.
